MDC Signs Lease Agreement with The Writers Place

The Midwest Dramatists Center (“MDC”) is pleased to announce that it has signed a lease to establish its headquarters and create a black box theater at The Writers Place of Kansas City.

MDC is a playwrights’ collective founded by author and playwright David Hanson. The purpose of MDC is to provide resources, space, and community for local playwrights to develop their works-in-progress through public readings and to help build a playwriting career regionally and nationally for selected playwrights.

David Hanson and Jose Faus sign the lease agreement at The Writers Place.

Each year, five regional playwrights will be selected by a Board of Directors to serve a five-year residency with MDC. Hanson, along, with Bryan Colley, Michelle T. Johnson, Alli Jordan and Vicki Vodrey, will make up the inaugural class of five playwrights.

“Playwrights need a home where they know they can realize to some level the vision of each play they write. They need a place with a stage and an audience and actors and directors,” said Hanson of MDC and its relationship with Writers Place. “In all honesty, this is perhaps the most important thing a writer needs. A place to call home.”
