"The Trading Races Experiment" by Michelle T. Johnson reading Sep. 14 at the MET

Due to scheduled renovations, this reading will not be at the usual location, but instead will take place at the Metropolitan Ensemble Theater ("MET") at 3614 Main Street.

Michelle T. Johnson's "Trading Races: From Rodney King to Paula Deen" is a one-act, seven-character play, produced by BrainSpunk Theater in Philadelphia and the Planet Connectivity Festival in New York City in 2014.

"The Trading Races Experiment" takes the original story from a magical realism, seven-person one-act play to an intimate, two-person, one-act that addresses the spiraling events of race relations in America. It does so through the story of a divorced couple debating the plight of their biracial son to an "audience" of chess pieces.

Directed by Chip Miller. Starring Dianne Yvette as Eve and Scott Cox as Billy.

Monday, September 14. Doors open at 7 p.m. The approximately 45-minute reading begins at 7:30, followed by a talkback with the playwright, director, and cast. No reservations needed and the cost is free.
